I was so excited I thought someone had sent me a sample of watercolors. Instead they want me to buy pens to advertise. Probably not. #watercolor #notyourtargetmarket

No. 8--Ragweed
No. 8--Ragweed.  Watercolor and Crayon.
Approximately 10.5 x 8 inches.
There weren't a lot of flowers available in my yard, so I ended up with a couple of droopy ragweed blooms.  It may not be ragweed--it's an OH native that blooms in the late summer, you can see a picture and a first cut of the painting on Instagram here.  I got a bit from one of my boys' second-grade teachers when she subdivided a bunch from a small plot at their elementary school.

I need more vases.  I'm only 8 into my 100 bouquets, and I am wishing for another vase! You can see where else this one has made an appearance here and here.

Daniel Smith watercolor--ultra marine blue, hansa yellow medium, pemanenty yellow deep, and burnt umber.  Plus some crayon over the top.

Turtles Stampeding Through Peanut Butter

Turtles Stampeding Through Peanut Butter
Turtles Stampeding Through Peanut Butter.  Watercolor & Crayon.
Approximately 8.5 x 11 inches.

Yesterday, I ran (that is a synonym for slog) the Air Force Half Marathon at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.  It was, they said, the hottest it's ever been for their race.  There wasn't much to be done except keep moving slowly and watch the fields.  So, spotted, and reinterpreted (and the world starts to take on a special colorful glow at a certain point during a long run on a hot day) a field oak.

Watercolors:  Daniel Smith:  Quin gold, phthalo blue rs, and quin violet.
Paper:  Fabriano 300 lb rough

Tippy Canoe

Tippy Canoe
Tippy Canoe.  Mixed Water-Based Media.
Approximately 25 x 17.5 inches.
This poor abstract.  Every time I think I'm done with it, I'll set it aside and a few weeks or months later, I'll be looking at it and think it needs something.  I've even changed the title since when I started I thought it looked dreamy.  Now, I think it looks like a once perfectly balanced sculpture went belly up.  You can see the first iteration here, the second here, and hopefully, I'm about at the final version above.

If you can't tell what changed recently--I used more crayon to intensify some of the colors and added a movement or line to connect some of the shapes.

If you're wondering, Tippy Canoe comes from Tippecanoe, which was a battle.  Logically, I use it to more literally like a canoe that is about to tip over.
